150 craft

What is the course?

The race will start at Point Roadknight, Anglesea and finish at Fisherman’s Beach, Torquay. The race will follow the coastline. The course may be reversed depending on the weather conditions on the day. The race may be postponed to Sunday 4 February 2018 if necessary due to safety requirements. We suggest you keep both days available to race.

What time does the race start?

Race start time will be announced Friday 2 February; the race start time will be selected by the Race Director in consultation with Torquay Marine Rescue Service. Please be available all day Saturday 3 February, and Sunday 4 February (Sunday 4 February is the back-up race day due to extreme weather conditions).

When do I Check-In for the race?

8.30 to 10am Saturday morning at Core Boardsports.

To be eligible to race each competitor must check in Saturday morning at Core Boardsports.

To be eligible to race you MUST bring your mandatory gear to registration.

Your PFD, mobile phone waterproof case, and flare will be tagged with your race number, name and phone number at Check-In.

Online registrations close Thursday 1 February at 5pm. There will be no registrations on the day.

What Mandatory Gear must I carry during the race?

Each competitor must present the following mandatory gear at registration and have this gear on your person during the race:

- Boat leash (which must be attached to you and your craft during the race)

- Flare

- Mobile phone in a waterproof case

- Hi-vis clothing

- Hi-vis hat

We highly recommend you carry a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) and enough food and water for the length of the race and wear sunscreen.

The water is cold and hypothermia is a major risk. Please wear warm clothes suitable for ocean racing conditions (e.g. Vaikobi Vcold top and bottom, booties, buff etc)

How do I get to the start line?

You can make your own way to the start line, or for $10 we can provide bus transport to the start line. The bus will leave from Race Headquarters (Core Boardsports) when registration closes. There are limited spots available so you must book your spot before 1 February 2018 by emailing kathryn@peakadventure.com.au.

How do I get my craft to the start line?

For those who need their ski, SUP, outrigger or paddleboard taken to the start line, we can provide transportation for you for $10 (cash on the day). We have limited room so you must book your spot before 1 February 2018 by emailing kathryn@peakadventure.com.au

What time is Race Briefing?

Race briefing will occur 30 minutes before the race start. You MUST attend the race briefing to be eligible to race. The time of the Race Briefing will be confirmed on Friday 2 February 2018.

Is there a staggered start?

Yes. The SUP’s and paddleboards and slower paddlers* will commence 15 minutes before the remainder of the field. This to ensure a high level of water safety can be provided for all competitors.

*'Slower paddlers' are those who are less confident in the ocean, or for who this is their first downwind ocean paddle race. For example, an intermediate paddler in a V8, not an experienced paddler in a V14.

Please email kathryn@peakadventure.com.au if you are paddler who would like to start in Wave 1.

Who is Torquay Marine Rescue Service?

The Torquay Marine Rescue Service (TMRS) is a volunteer body located on the Surfcoast in Victoria, Australia. TMRS works closely with the neighbouring Surfcoast Marine Rescue Services, as well as Victoria Police and the Rescue Helicopter Service. TMRS is overseen by the Victoria Police Rescue Coordination Center located at Williamstown Victoria.

TMRS is primarily focused on ocean rescue of persons and/or vessels, including (but not limited to) fishing boats, yachts, windsurfers / kitesurfers, surfers, swimmers and kayaks.

TMRS is also involved in a safety capacity in community events such as the Danger 1000 Swim Race, Anaconda Race, Dragon Boat Race and other smaller events.

Tell me more about Water Safety

Water Safety will be provided by Torquay Marine Rescue Service to ensure your enjoyment and safety throughout the race. A spotter will be located at Point Addis. For your safety cut-off time will apply here. If you pull out of the race you must advise the race organisers at your earliest convenience.

A Risk Management Plan is in place for the event.

If you fall out more than 3 times in 10 minutes water safety will escort you to land, where you will be responsible for organising your own pick-up. Your safety, and the safety of the rest of the field, is our main priority, thus your ski will only be taken to land if safe to do so, otherwise it will be your responsibility to collect your ski.

Who do I advise if I pull out of the race?

If you pull out of the race you must advise the Event Manager asap. Send a message to 0478 506 215 with your full name advising you have pulled out. We suggest you save this number in your phone before race day.

Tell me about dinner and presentations

Dinner and presentations will be held at Core Boardsports. Partners and children are welcome. Presentations will occur early in the night and we have organised special surprises for you! Your dinner is included in your entrance fee (if you select this option). To be eligible for spot prizes you must be at the presentation.

How do I volunteer to be part of the Peak Adventure team on the day?

If you would like to join in the action but don't paddle (yet!), never fear! You can be involved by taking on a very important volunteer role. Please send your name and number to kathryn@peakadventure.com.au and we will be in touch.

All volunteers go in the draw to WIN an Epic V5 or Epic V7 at presentations! We will also provide you with dinner.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Email info@peakadventure.com.au or contact Jarad Kohlar on 0409 786 237
