VicWISE will be conducting a panel discussion on student employability through the perspectives of employers and international students. This panelling session allows the audience to hear authentic stories from the champions themselves:
Michael Sylvester, the Chief Executive Officer at Blueline Laundry
Blueline Laundry is a for-purpose enterprise and registered charity aiming to create meaningful employment for people with disabilities and disadvantages. Recently, Michael found that his migrant staff held degrees in the core areas of work that the company had been struggling to fill the roles with from the local employment sector. Thus, he set out to uncover more of their untapped potential. With 20 years of experience in leadership roles, he has been exposed to public, private and not for profit sectors as an owner, contractor and consultant across manufacturing, infrastructure, engineering, project management and organisational capacity development.
Aradhana Kaushik, Finance Analyst at Seattle Group
Aradhana has moved to Melbourne in 2017 to pursue a degree in Finance. While she was a student at the University of Melbourne, she interned at Grant Thornton to enhance and develop her professional skills. When she graduated, she accepted a job at Airlink Services group and the Internship at Damstra to gear herself up mentally and provide herself with experiences that match her level of motivation and propel her to go further knowing that she is better equipped on any front. She is currently working as a Finance analyst at Seattle Group and working towards a CFA qualification.
Hrushi Kommula, Data Processor and Drone Operator at Australian UAV
Hrushi is a Data processor and Drone operator at AUAV Sydney office, brought by his passion to learn new technologies and thrive in unfamiliar environments. He joined this company early last year and it's been going strong ever since. He gets an opportunity to learn something new everyday. He has graduated with Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (Honours) from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Outside of work life, he enjoys taking coastal walks, playing cricket and watching Netflix.
Jahnavi Duvvuri, Social Media Marketing Specialist at Australian Visa and Immigration Experts (AVIE)
Jahnavi is a Social Media Marketing Specialist at Australian Visa and Immigration Experts (AVIE), a leading immigration services firm. She finds creativity, empathy and approachability to be the most valuable qualities for success in developing and implementing a marketing and communications strategy. In the last 5 years, she has worked with both agency and in-house marketing environments, collaborating with a variety of brands and communities across diverse industries. She holds a Master of Marketing degree from Deakin University. As an international student, she is committed to improving opportunities and access for migrant students, enabling them to realise and reach their full potential.
The panel will be moderated by Sneh Paul, Recruitment & Workplace Planning Advisor at Melba Support Services and Consultant of VicWISE
Sneh arrived in Australia as an international student herself and thus empathises with the challenges that one confronts whilst pursuing aspirations in a foreign and unknown environment. Having had the good fortune to work across numerous countries whilst based in Singapore, Canada and now Australia, she brings with her the added appreciation of cross-cultural sensitivities and challenges in our corporate environment particularly those spanning the APAC region. Sneh is genuinely interested in enabling international students and alumni with actionable advice and good human interaction to build their path forward in a world where careers and businesses are changing rapidly.
