VicTripathon Tech Jam
Date and time
Description
Let the games begin.
Our Tech Jam kicks off at 9am on Saturday 30 May, and that’s when your team kicks into gear. This is our two-day blast of idea generation, collaboration, programming, creation, testing and finalising. There will be food, drinks, caffeine in various ingestible forms, roving mentors, and places to crash – (almost) whatever we can provide to help you make the best, most engaging app you can. At the end of the Tech Jam judges will award positions in the VicTripathon Incubator to five competitors and cash prizes.
Places for the Tech Jam are strictly limited, so register early to avoid disappointment.
If you require a PTV Timetable API key (and don't already have one), please register before the 22nd May to ensure we can deliver this to you for the official launch on the 28th of May.
The Tech Jam will run from 9am - 6pm both days at Teamsquare on Bourke street, Melbourne.
Technical skill in coding is not a requirement, but places for different types of attendees are limited to ensure a good mix for team forming.
Prizes!!!
Winners of the Tech Jam (there will be up to 5) receive up to $2,250 in cash prizes, a workspace at Teamsquare for the month of June, and opportunity to work one-on-one with great industry mentors and have exclusive access to ask questions to PTV about the API.
At the end of the Incubator, participants can enter the final judging component of the competition and are eligible to win up to two grand prizes - winners of the Tech Jam are eligible for both the Incubator participant prize, and one of the other two grand prizes:
-
Grand Prize 1: (Incubator participants only) $5,000
Awarded to one team who has completed the Incubator program on the basis of Best improvement to user experience.

What is VicTripathon?
VicTripathon is a series of events that brings together creative minds, web programmers, coders and anyone interested in the possibility of using Victoria’s live public transport data to improve traveller experience. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) are releasing new real-time data to their Timetable API on May 28 and in a project led by Collabforge, Code for Australia, Open Knowledge Australia and Owl Ventures, are creating a program to encourage development of great digital products that use the new data. The organisers behind VicTripathon are putting the call out to digital innovators and creative thinkers to team up and work out the best ways to use this data.
How will it work?
VicTripathon is made up of three events: the IdeaSprint, the Launch and the Tech Jam (Hackathon). Each event focuses on a different stage of development: work-shopping initial ideas, a public announcement of the project, and a friendly competition to create digital products to best improve traveller experience.
What’s in it for me?
To encourage the best and brightest minds and create the best digital products, we’re offering mentorship and exclusive access to PTV's API developers, mentorships with experts in a range of fields, cash prizes, a workplace and helpers of all kinds. In short, all you need to make a big splash in digital innovation.
