Do you have questions on the Victoria’s new environmental laws and what they will mean for you? Would you like to find out about EPA’s transformation?

The changes to Victoria’s environmental laws may have implications for you. We’re passionate about this state staying one of the most liveable places on the planet – a place where community and industry continue to thrive.

EPA will provide the science-first advice and leadership Victorians need to protect their health and environment.

EPA will be hosting a series of drop-in events to answer your questions, help you understand the changes to environmental laws that are proposed to come in to effect in July 2020 and what this means for you.

Please note these are drop-in sessions, so feel free to come anytime while the sessions are running.

Background

The Victorian Government undertook a public inquiry into EPA and its final conclusions were released in 2016. The Government’s response to the Inquiry provided support for a legislative overhaul of the Environment Protection Act 1970 through two phases. The first happened in October 2017, when the new Environment Protection Act 2017 was passed by Parliament. From 1 July 2018, this Act established EPA as an independent statutory authority and legislated a Governing Board, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Environmental Scientist. Completing the legislative overhaul is the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018 (the Amendment Act) which amends the Environment Protection Act 2017 (the 2017 Act). The Amendment Act was passed by Parliament and received Royal Assent in August 2018.

The Environment Protection Amendment Act is proposed to take effect in July 2020. The session will allow attendees to have their questions answered about the Act to help Victorians prepare for 2020.
