Event description
A new initiative of the AEF, the Victorian Young Leaders: Global Youth Advocacy Forum series is an interactive student program.

About this event

Victorian Young Leaders: Global Youth Advocacy Forums (GYAFs) return to Victorian schools in 2021, offering a two-day online student leadership experience for Year 9 students as part of the Victorian Young Leaders Programs.

Delivered by Asia Education Foundation (AEF), in partnership with High Resolves and Confucius Institute and under guidance by Emeritus Professor Fazal Rizvi (The University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education) in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training.

Global Youth Advocacy Forums will connect students from across Victorian regions and educational sectors to facilitate philosophical and sociological conversations about reimagining “global” education for the next decade. Participants will explore questions such as:

  • How is our world changing in 2021?
  • What does/can “global citizenship” mean?; and
  • What roles do/can our schools and education systems play?

In preparation for the forums, students in school teams will be asked to interview and collect stories (vignettes) from peers across the Asia Pacific about issues they see or face in education. These vignettes can be used to explore concepts and themes for Videos for Change during and after GYAFs.

On the forum day, students will exchange and analyse these stories with teams from other schools to generate new insights and questions based on the concepts and theoretical frameworks introduced by AEF and High Resolves.

These forums will take place online, using a range of collaboration and communication tools.

Please note, schools may register for a total of one forum. Should you wish to attend both forums, please email s.sanada@unimelb.edu.au to express your interest.
