Come and celebrate the Victoian Seniors festival with us

Open Door Singers

Join our regular singing group in Docklands.  Participate in ongoing rehearsals with a friendly bunch of locals and meet some new friends over some tea and coffee.  You dont need any singing experience and you dont need to be a regular to join.  New members are always welcome.  As the name suggests we are an open door for all willing to participate.

About Us

For more than 10 years, Open Door Foundations has been devoted to sharing the joys and benefits of singing to as many people as possible through its community, gospel and corporate choirs. Since launching, the group has grown to over 400 regular members, and is continuing to rapidly expand.

At Open Door Foundations, we believe singing is not only fun, but beneficial to your overall health and happiness as well. It enhances the mechanisms for coping with stress, releasing emotions, processing information, connecting with others and building confidence. Our mission is to encourage people of every ability, age and background to discover their voice and unlock the enormous benefits and enjoyment of singing.

More recently, Open Door Foundations has been fundamental in leveraging these benefits, and contributing to the mental and physical wellbeing of corporate employees at Coles and Herbert Smith Freehills through its corporate choir services.

About our founder

Founder Shaun Islip is an internationally acclaimed choral conductor and has a distinguished career spanning 40+ years as a soloist, cabaret artist, and musical director to numerous BBC broadcasts. On a more personal level, Shaun is described as charismatic, inspiring and passionate.

What Open Door members are saying:

“From the moment I came along to Open Door Singers Docklands in mid 2016. I was given a warm welcome. I knew from that very first night that I would be accepted as part of the group. I began to notice that no matter how stressful a week I had been having my mood was always highest after having a good sing.”

“Being part of Open Door Singers brings joy to my heart and peace to my soul”

“…It’s not just the singing, I feel a part of something bigger, it’s the welcome, the birthdays, the greeting of new people, and the welcome when joining. I feel included and excepted no matter whether I have a good singing voice or not, I open my mouth wider when singing now and feel free.”
