Event description

In 2015, Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing, Martin Foley announced the creation of the Victorian Housing Register to consolidate all social housing applications into a single register.

The register will improve the service provided to clients seeking housing by streamlining access to a broader range of social housing options.

The register was designed and implemented in partnership between the community housing sector, the homelessness services sector, including family violence, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Council to Homeless Persons (CHP) has developed training specific to the homelessness sector for workers with limited experience in completing online applications. This training will assist practitioners to complete online applications, and will focus on promoting good practice and enhancing outcomes for consumers.

The key goals of the training workshops are to:

  • Build on and enhance the information provided by DHHS to maximise the knowledge of the homelessness sector about the VHR;

  • Contextualise the VHR for the homelessness sector;

  • Build the required skill base of the homelessness sector to engage fully with the VHR; and,

  • Increase the numbers of applications to the VHR by the homelessness sector.
