Event description

Description

An introduction to the ecology and identification of mosses and liverworts (bryophytes).

This 1-day workshop will include a morning field trip to wet forest vegetation on the outskirts of Melbourne, where you will hear from Dr Matt Dell and Dr Marianne Worley on bryophyte ecology, lifeforms and survey methods. The field trip will be followed by an afternoon workshop where you will try your hand at species identification with guidance from Matt and Marianne; using reference material, microscopes and hand lenses.

The workshop will run from 9am until about 6pm, with an option to stay until mid evening for those who wish to do so.

Participants should wear appropriate field clothing including waterproof jacket if rain is forecast. Hard hats will be available to loan during the field trip. Bring a water bottle, lunch and a 10x jeweller's loupe (hand lens).

Meeting place (9am) is the Yarraburn Centre, Yarra Junction. Field sites are a short drive from Yarra Junction. Location details will be provided during the morning of the workshop.
