About this Event

A Common Interest Work Group presented by SIRF Roundtables VICTAS.

Attendance is free for people from member companies of SIRF Roundtables

Hosted via video conferencing by: Melbourne Water Brooklyn Pumping Station

Maintenance and repair tasks are often performed by contractors and it is a must that you ensure their Safety. Pemits and Isolations are a critical part of a safety system to ensure the safety of not only your own staff but quite critical when comes to ensuring the safety of Contractors.

In guidance, Worksafe states employers should plan and scope contractors work, but also in their management consider Task creep, the Tender process(preferred contractors) and specific contract requirements. Systems, processes and procedures can be quite key to managing risks and ensuring safety of contractors and employees whether shutting plant, and isolating and involving any inspection, cleaning, maintenance or repair.

However, questions often remain as to where responsibilities lie and compliance, just how far to go in managing risk and mitigation. These systems can also take quite a bit to get setup and going, quite a bit in dedication and discipline to employ. There can always be opportunities to make them less onerous on the business and there will always be opportunities to improve them further in their effectiveness.

Melbourne Water has a mixed workforce of employees and contractors, have put considerable effort to manage contractors and in their systems. They are keen to share their insights and learnings and also take us through their processes and systems in action.

What are you doing to manage your contractors ? and what systems and processes are you using to ensure safety?  Come learn from Melbourne Water and share what you are doing with others, so we can share and learn from each other on how we can collectively improve not only the effectiveness but also the efficiency of these systems and processes.

Some of the topics to be discussed on the day may include:

  • Contractor management

About SIRF Rt Common Interest Work Groups

All SIRF Rt events are designed to provide a safe environment for open discussion with peers on the topic of interest they are working on, in and around. SIRF Rt Common Interest Work Groups (CWIG’s) provide the best forum for peer-to-peer learning and best practice sharing. Participants are asked to bring something for ‘show and tell’ about the topic of the day as it applies at their organisation – a mini presentation (2 slides), something that you can present in 5min maximum. It could comprise a few photos, a brief descriptions of the current efforts/learnings, a couple of charts or graphs – anything that will help improve the discussion or share knowledge or expertise. After each company shares the deeper discussion follows, guided by our practiced facilitators.
