The Diocese of Melbourne is delighted to host vespers and a general congregational meeting with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II during his historic first Pastoral Visit to Australia.

Date: Saturday 9 September 2017.

Time: 6.30pm - 10pm (Doors will be open from 5pm and close at 6pm sharp).

Ticket Price: FREE, but you must register.

Location: St. Paul’s Cathedral, (corner of Flinders Lane and Swanston St, Melbourne).


Are there security requirements to attend the “General Congregational Meeting”?

Yes. You must have registered for a Diocesan ID card to enter all events during the

Papal Visit, including the “General Congregational Meeting.” If you have not registered for a

Diocesan ID card, please visit and follow the prompts to order

your ID Card. Full instructions are provided at this website and please read them carefully.

To proceed with booking tickets for the “General Congregational Meeting,” you need to

have registered for an ID Card and to have received your unique ID Card number.

You must complete this step first.

Is Eventbrite the only way to book for the General Congregational Meeting?

This is correct. No tickets will be available at any of the local parishes or on the night of the event. You must register to attend as places are limited. Once registrations close, there will be no more tickets available.

If you need any technological or language support to mobilise the online ticket booking process (which will be in English), please seek assistance from family members, fellow parishioners or your parish priest. Your parish priest will direct you to a nominated representative at your church to assist you with your booking.

Are there any age restrictions?

No age restrictions apply to this event. However, please be aware that children must remain with their parents for the duration of the event to maintain a level of order, due reverence and quietness.

How will seating be allocated?

Seating is not allocated. You will be simply reserve a ticket through Eventbrite. You will be ushered to your seat on the night of the event on a ‘first in basis.’ Please ensure that families arrive and enter together as no saving of seats will be permitted.

What time will doors be open to the congregation?

Doors will open from 5pm to 6pm SHARP.

From 6pm-6.30pm ALL THE DOORS of the Cathedral will be closed.

The Event will start at 6:30pm SHARP. Anyone arriving after 6.30pm will need to enter through the side door to fill up any empty seats towards the back.

Please note, the Cathedral has limited capacity, and the doors will be closed once capacity has been reached - even with a valid ticket, so please ensure you arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Will there be tickets allocated to my local Parish?

No. There are no seats allocated on the seating plan for parishes.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes. No ticket, no entry to the event.

Your ticket will be sent to you in a confirmation email. Please print the ticket and bring it with you to the event. Also, note all tickets will be checked along with your ID Card to verify your identity.

Will tickets be available for booking at the event?

No. Tickets must be registered online.

What shall I bring/not bring with me?

Please limit hand bags for security reasons. Please do not bring any food or drinks.

Are cameras or Electronic devices allowed to be used during this Event?

No. Please avoid bringing electronic or recording devices (such as mobile phones, tablets, cameras or camcorders) to the event. Any mobile phones must be switched off and be put away during the meeting. Photographing or recording of the event is strictly prohibited.

What is the procedure for sending questions to His Holiness to answer during the Event?

No questions will be accepted on the night of the meeting. There will be an opportunity for attendees to send their questions via email for His Holiness to consider prior to the event. Please send your question/s to
