Event description


This hands-on course is designed for professional users of Vectorworks, from beginner to advanced level. It will offer a good grounding for optimising your use of Vectorworks 2017. In order to get the most out of the course, it is strongly recommended that you have used Vectorworks, and have a basic familiarity with the software. We recommend that beginners have completed “The Basics” of the free Vectorworks Training Guides.

Computer literacy is essential.

Day 1 (whole day only)


Morning Session
Monday 25th September (9:30am - 1:00pm)

• Preferences and workspaces
• Page Setup, Set Print Area, Layer Scale, Units
• Object Info palette
• Understanding Cartesian and Polar coordinates
• Using the basic 2D tools, creating and editing objects
• Floating Data Bar
• Smart cursor, Snapping palette, Snap Loupe
• Attributes and using the Resource Locator
• Colours, hatches, gradients, image fills, line weights, markers
• 2d Attribute Mapping tool
• 2d Reshape, Offset, Fillet, Select Similar tools

Afternoon Session

• Duplication, Cut, Copy, Paste and Paste in Place
• Mirror, Duplicate Array, Duplicate Along Path
• Understanding and editing Groups
• Resource Manager and importing & creating resources
Dimensioning; creating your own dimension standard
Understanding 2D/3D hybrid objects
• Parametric objects: doors, windows and others

• Organising your drawing using Layers and Classes

Afternoon Session

• Design layers and Sheet layers
• Presenting and printing a drawing using Viewports
• Viewports and 3D models
• Section viewports
• Rendered views using Viewports
• Viewport crops and annotations
• Viewport Associative dimensions
• Annotating the drawing
• Importing DWG files

Day 3 (can be done as half or whole day)

Morning Session: Basic 3D Modelling

Afternoon Session: Advanced 3D Modelling

• Difference between NURBS, 3D polygons
• Nurbs curves and surfaces
• Meshes and 3D loci
• Loft surface with rails, Birail Loft creation
• Contour and Project tools
• Creating helix spirals
• Working planes, align plane tool
• 3D text
• Surface Array for concept development
• The Subdivision tool

Morning Session: An Introduction to Rendering
Thursday 28th September (9:30am - 1:00pm)

• Different types of rendering modes: Open GL, Polygonal, and Sketch Rendering
• Renderworks, Artistic Renderworks, Custom Renderworks
• Render Bitmap tool
• Creating, importing, and applying textures to objects
• Using Shaders to create custom textures
• Mapping textures, 3D Attribute Mapping tool
• Rendering and classes
• Lighting a scene

• Exporting rendered views

Afternoon Session: Advanced Rendering

• Using High Definition Rendering Images (HDRI)

The main entrance is from Oxford Street near the corner of Greens Road, next to the 7-11 petrol station. Please view this map to locate the Lifts in D Block, which will take you to the First Floor.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Car: There is no parking at this venue, and street parking is limited to 1-2 hours. The nearest parking station is at The Entertainment Quarter (formerly Fox Studios), about 20 minutes’ walk away.

Train: The venue is approximately 20 minutes' walk from Museum Train Station.

Bus: Numerous bus routes also service Oxford Street.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You can bring a printed or mobile app ticket to the event. If you forget your ticket, you can just show your ID so we know who you are.

Is food provided?

No, but there is a cafeteria downstairs to purchase tea & coffee during breaks, and there are numerous cafés nearby on Oxford Street. You may also wish to bring your own lunch. There is a one hour lunch break between 1pm and 2pm.

Do I need to bring a laptop?

No. Computers are provided for all attendees.

Can I update my registration information?


Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Please contact us prior to the event if you find yourself unable to attend and wishing to send a colleague instead. We will try to accommodate this.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

No. Only the person named on the ticket may attend.

What's the refund policy?

You may cancel your registration up to 5 days prior to the commencement of your course, and still receive a full refund. Contact OzCAD directly to request a cancellation and refund. Refunds are issued via Eventbrite and may take 5 days to process.

Is there a Waitlist if tickets sell out?

If a ticket sells out, please email courses@ozcad.com.au to be added to the Waitlist.

Will I receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course?

If you would like to receive a certificate of completion, please contact OzCAD to request this once your course has finished.

As an architect, can I claim CPD points if I attend the course?

Yes. This training course meets the requirements as a formal CPD contributor for architects. Each hour of successful participation may contribute 1 formal point towards the AIA's CPD requirements in your state. Be sure to request your certificate of course completion via email at the end of your course.
