**NEW COURSE** TRANSITIONING FROM SKETCHUP TO VECTORWORKS: DISCOVER THE BENEFITS OF CREATING YOUR 3D BUILDING IN VECTORWORKS ARCHITECT

Morning Session:

Friday 23rd November (9:30am - 1:00pm)

1. We consider a SketchUp case study and discuss the strengths and ultimate shortcomings of using this program.

2. We learn how to efficiently build a 3D model of the same SketchUp building using all the tools right inside Vectorworks. In so doing you will see how Vectorworks is the right tool to take control of and expand your 3D workflow.

  • Wall Tool – how to quickly and effectively employ this fundamental tool.

  • Slab Tool – how to leverage the walls to create shaped slabs to fit.

  • Windoor Tool – how to quickly populate your model with sophisticated parametric window and door objects.

  • Symbols – how to use the vast online resources available right within Vectorworks to add detail, equipment, fixtures and fittings.

  • Furniture and Fixtures – fill your design with a wide variety of custom cabinets exactly as you want them using another highly evolved suite of tools.

  • Roof – another essential parametric tool you’ll wonder how you lived without.

Afternoon Session:
Friday 23rd November (2:00pm - 5:00pm)

3. To really get maximum value, in the afternoon we look at how we can present our 3D model to our clients in the most effective and powerful of ways.

  • Textures, Furnishings and Landscape – once again we take advantage of the large online resources that can be used to quickly populate, decorate and present our design.

4. Finally in preparedness for construction we look at some specific Vectorworks tools to extract technical drawings straight from our model. No double drawing. From schematic design all the way through to construction details. All with Vectorworks and covered in one day.

  • Hybrid objects – things with a 3D view and a special 2D representation ... perfect for drawings.

  • Viewports – how to compose plans, elevations and perspective views ready for printing.

  • Internal Elevations – perfect for joinery or those special one-off spaces.

  • Plan Details – grab a small snippet of a drawing and create a detail of it.

  • And for good measure we’ll compose a special page with a rendered perspective.
