Event description

Description

Yoga is, at the core, a practice that allows you to be YOU and will meet each child where they are at. Through its range of poses, many breathing techniques, and a diverse selection of meditations, it has the power to influence our minds through the body, and when working with, or caring for children, this is a perfect approach as they may not have the ability to verbally communicate what is going on for them. Yoga provides a space for children to feel safe and at-home in their bodies so that they can; feel safe in the world; and develop good self-esteem and healthy relationships.

This workshop has been designed for YOU. A parent who has tried therapies, therapies and more therapies and the anticipated outcomes have not occurred. A parent who is sick of trialling a different medication every 6-months only to have their child explain how terrible they feel. A parent who is tired of the weekly phone calls from the school explaining that your child is 'disruptive'. A parent who has had enough of seeing their child in a state of anxiety every day. A parent who simply wants to support their child in becoming a confident, happy, resilient, calm and social adult.

As a Social Worker and a Children's Yoga and Meditation teacher, Jessica Lee is here to support you with these daily battles. Jessica is making it her mission to revolutionise the service options available for children with complex needs. She has spent most of her adult life relentlessly passionate about the developing brain and discovering appropriate interventions for each child she has worked with.

This specialised workshop will ensure parents/carers leave with a range of new and innovative strategies to assist the children in their care physically, emotionally and psychologically.

This workshop will provide parents/carers:

An overview of the brain when a child's sympathetic nervous system (fear response) is overactive;

The physical, emotional and psychological benefits of yoga therapy (eg how yoga strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system - relaxation response);

The reasons why yoga therapy is becoming a highly sought-after therapy for children with special needs or those affected by trauma;

A range of trauma-informed poses they can do with their child/ren;

How to select a breathing technique depending on the child's state of mind and

A method in selecting an appropriate meditation for their child.

I hope you will join me for a morning of inspired learning and a chance to connect with like-minded parents.
