Description

Do you want a better understanding of how to use the planning framework to manage licensed premises in your municipality?

Are you interested in the broad range of opportunties available to local councils to address alcohol related harm?

Is your council considering committing to reducing alcohol harm in the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan? Or adopting a Local Planning Policy for Licensed Premises?

VicHealth, Cancer Council Victoria and the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research at La Trobe University are hosting a workshop to discuss these topics.

The workshop will feature presentations and interactive Q&A sessions with a range of speakers with expertise across planning law, urban and social planning, law and policy, research, and public health. The speakers will include:

  • Mimi Marcus, Partner, Public Law – Planning & Environment, Maddocks

  • Claire Wilkinson, Research Officer, Centre for Alcohol Policy Research, La Trobe University

  • Bonnie Rosen, Principal, Symplan

  • Sarah Jackson, Legal Policy Adviser, Cancer Council Victoria

You will also hear from Council Officers at the City of Yarra and City of Stonnington who will share their experience in amending their local planning schemes to incorporate a Local Planning Policy for Licensed Premises.

In attending the workshop, participants should expect to gain an in-depth understanding of using the planning framework to manage licensed premises and minimise alcohol related harm.

Participants will also hear about the range of alcohol harm minimisation activities which have and/or are being delivered by Local Government to reduce the harm from alcohol in their municipality.
