Event description

Description

Description

This one-day course is designed for guideline developers and others involved in making evidence-based recommendations for policy and practice. It covers the main principles of GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) and how it can be used in guideline development. GRADE has become the gold standard approach in the development of clinical practice guidelines. Recommended for use in NHMRC-approved guidelines, GRADE provides a transparent method for making the complex decisions required to draw conclusions about the certainty of evidence and derive recommendations.

This workshop provides participants with a practical introduction to using GRADE in guidelines, with an emphasis on using the GRADE evidence to decision framework to make healthcare recommendations. The course assumes some familiarity with systematic review methods, in particular the assessment of risk of bias and the interpretation of effect estimates

Outline

  • Overview of the GRADE approach
  • Assessing the certainty of evidence using GRADE
  • Interpreting Evidence Profiles from systematic reviews of interventions
  • Making recommendations and using the GRADE Evidence to Decision Framework
  • Software to support the use of GRADE in guideline development

The workshop involves a mix of presentations, interactive examples and hands-on exercises. Electronic copies of the slides are provided at the workshop. Participants require access to a Wi-Fi enabled laptop or tablet if they wish to try the GRADEPro GDT software.

Cost

The workshop is AUD $368 per participant with discounts for group tickets. A light lunch, morning and afternoon tea is included.
