Event description
User research is an essential skill in creating great content, but starting out can be daunting. This course is here to help.

About this Event

An interactive online course over 2 days

User research is an essential skill for content designers and strategists. It’s one of the tools that make today’s content professionals more than just writers. But starting out with research can be daunting. What type of research is best for your content? How do you do it? And what’s the best way to actually use all your research insights?

After doing this course, you’ll be skilled in a range of user research techniques, and you’ll know how to use research to deliver better content for your users. You’ll also know how to bring a much-needed content focus to research that others are doing or have already done.

We deliver this course online in real time to support social distancing. We'll provide all the online tools you need. You'll need to bring your own snacks!

Learning outcomes

After taking the course, you will be able to:

  • understand how user research can inform and improve your content
  • plan a content-focused user research project
  • use keyword data to get insights into the language people use and what they’re looking for
  • conduct interviews to understand how users talk, think and behave
  • synthesise your data to develop findings and insights
  • use your research findings to develop new content that meets users’ needs
  • test new content
  • present your research to stakeholders and provide evidence of the need for better content
  • embed research into your everyday content practice, including collaborating on user research with others.

Program

Sessions run from 9:30am to 4pm including breaks. Participants must attend both days in full.

  • Day 1 morning: User research for content professionals: how and where to begin

  • Day 2 morning: Synthesising research data and developing content
  • Day 2 afternoon: Testing content and presenting research.
