Event description

Description

In association with Insite Arts, USC is proud to present Architects of Air’s Arboria luminarium – a monumental walk-in sculpture that is dedicated to the theme of ‘trees’ and promises to generate a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and colour.

Through labyrinthine tunnels and cavernous domes, you’ll move through a changing world of colour. Vivid splashes and reflections spill across the curved walls, creating an experience apart from the normal and everyday.

You can explore the Arboria luminarium, following a map through the maze and immersing yourself in radiant colour, or you can simply lay back and take in the sights and sound. No two visits are alike, as the atmosphere inside alters according to changing weather and changing light outside.

You’ll also be transfixed by the Arboria soundscape, which originated from recordings made for biodiversity monitoring in the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest. Musician and soundscape ecologist Alice Eldridge (has added her own piano composition to the forest and wildlife sounds.

Designed by the renowned artist Alan Parkinson, Architects of Air’s immersive and interactive luminaria sculptures have delighted audiences across the globe for 25 years. Since 1992 the sculptures have appeared in 43 countries, welcoming over three million visitors at more than 600 exhibitions across five continents.

Arboria is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, cultures and abilities, and is accessible for wheelchair users and people with mobility difficulties. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Arboria is an experience not to be missed.
