Description

Come along for a free guided tour of Urrbrae House, built in 1891 and the first home in South Australia lit by electricity. Hear about the life and times of Scottish migrants, Peter and Matilda Waite. See inside our Victorian schoolroom and younger visitors can try their hand at writing with a nib pen and ink. The tour takes about 75 minutes. Then you can explore the Urrbrae House gardens and adjacent Waite Arboretum at your leisure. This tour is presented by University of Adelaide staff and volunteers. As numbers are limited for these tours, please remember to cancel your Eventbrite booking if you find that you are unable to attend a tour that you have booked.

This tour is offered on Tuesday and Thursday at 11am (except public holidays) during the April, July and October school holidays in South Australia.

Urrbrae House is located on the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide at Urrbrae. Free parking is available in the Urrbrae House carpark on Walter Young Avenue, Urrbrae.

This includes the following rooms: Main Hall, Drawing Room, Arboretum Exhibition Room, Dining Room, Peter Waite Exhibition Room, Servery and Butler’s Pantry.

For those using wheelchairs and other mobility devices access to Urrbrae House is via the eastern glass door of the house. Accessible parking is available at the rear of Urrbrae House, enter the Waite Campus, off Gate 3 from Waite Road, Urrbrae.
