Description

Dublin-based flautist Lina Andonovska is in international demand as a soloist, chamber musician and curator. Her performances have been hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as being “superbly played...”. Pianist Alex Raineri described by Limelight Magazine as “a soloist of superb virtuosic skill and musicality” leads a busy freelance performance schedule through Australia and internationally and is the curator of the Brisbane Music Festival. Both performers are members of Southern Cross Soloists. In this program they join forces to present a performance of the music of Francis Poulenc, Richard Strauss and Beat Furrer.


Alex Raineri

Described by Limelight Magazine as “a soloist of superb virtuosic skill and musicality”, Australian pianist Alex Raineri is an active recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician.

International performances include tours throughout California, South-East Asia, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany and Austria. Alex has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio NZ, California Capital Public Radio, ABC Classic FM and the Australian MBS Networks.

As a concerto soloist he has featured with the Queensland, Tasmanian, Darwin and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, Southern Cross Soloists, Orchestra Victoria, Four Winds Festival Orchestra, Bangalow Festival Orchestra and the Queensland Pops Orchestra. Alex has been the recipient of a number of major awards including the Kerikeri International Piano Competition and Australian National Piano Award.

Alex is the pianist with the Southern Cross Soloists and other notable chamber partnerships include; Andreas Ottensamer, eighth blackbird, ELISION, Sara Macliver, Natalie Clein, Greta Bradman, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Jack Liebeck, Kathryn Stott, Slava Grigoryan, Brett Dean and Opera Queensland.

Alex’s mentors have included Leah Horwitz OAM, Timothy Young, Stephen Emmerson and Genevieve Lacey. He is currently undertaking a Doctor of Musical Arts at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and is an alumni and fellow of the Australian National Academy of Music.

Lina Andonovska

Lina Andonovska (flute) leads a diverse career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and
collaborator. Quickly gaining recognition internationally as a fearless and versatile artist, she has collaborated with Crash Ensemble, Deutsches Kammerorchester, Australian Chamber Orchestra, stargaze, Southern Cross Soloists, Ulysses Ensemble and eighth blackbird. She is critically acclaimed for her interpretation of new music; Rolling Stone Magazine hailed her performance at Bang On A Can Summer Festival as “superbly played, (ranging) from sustained ‘somebody-please-get-that-tea-kettle’ squeaks to
the flit and flutter of its beautifully lilting trills…”

As an orchestral player she has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria; Guest Principal Flute with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia (UK). As soloist she has performed with Southbank Sinfonia, Orchestra Victoria, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Deutsches Kammerorchester.

Recent performance credits include Dean’s flute concerto ‘Siduri Dances’ with Deutsches Kammerorchester, Tokyo Experimental Festival, appearances with s t a r g a z e at the Edinburgh International Festival and Berlin’s Unerhörte Musik series. In 2019, she will be giving the world premiere of a new work written for her by Donnacha Dennehy at Musica Nova, Helsinki.
