Event description
Local First Nations weavers, Marg Murray (Barkindji) and Valda Murray (Yorta Yorta) will guide an intimate traditional weaving workshop.

About this Event

Coil and stitch basketry are long-established Indigenous fibre artforms in the Murray River region. Traditionally coiled baskets were made in many shapes and sizes, ranging from small round baskets to large oval baskets that were used to carry babies. Every stitch creates a bigger story; revealing its maker, the land it was made on and the reason it was made.

This hands-on weaving workshop will guide you through the contemplative weaving process. Led by local First Nations weavers Marg Murray (Barkindji) and Valda Murray (Yorta Yorta) on the banks of the Murray River on Gateway Island. Sit by the river. Listen and share. Weave your story.
