About this Event

A joint initiative of the Scientia Education Academy and the Grand Challenge on Rapid Urbanisation, brought to fruition by UNSW Growers, the Teaching and Research Garden is a resource for staff and students. Garden beds will be available for use in courses and research.

Program

  • 11 am: Arrival
  • 11:10 am: Formal launch by Professor Merlin Crossley, DVC Academic
  • 11:30 am: Hive split
  • 12pm: Close

As a part of the opening festivities we will be splitting a native stingless bee hive (Tetragonula carbonaria) into 2 new hives, so our garden can have one. You will have the rare opportunity to peek inside the hive and see the amazing spiral structure of the brood and the stunning organic architecture of the honey and pollen storage. Excess honey will be collected and it will be possible for you to taste it on some home made native flour sourdough.

UNSW Urban Growers is cross faculty staff and student group from Law, Built Environment, Public Health and Community Medicine, Engineering, BEES, ARC, UNSW Wellbeing, Environment & Society, FASS, and Estate Management.
