Anne-Marie will be sharing her family's story and a bit about the Penola Wellness Group. She was an inaugural member of the group and drives the group to bring awareness to the community about mental and physical wellbeing.

Graham Cornes

Ex-AFL Footballer and Media Personality

OAM, has spent a lifetime in AFL football as a successful player and coach, culminating in his admission to the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

He played 390 games of senior football with Glenelg, South Adelaide, North Melbourne, including 22 games with the SANFL state team. He won the Tassie Medal, the Simpson Medal, was twice an all-Australian player and twice the all-Australian coach. In his six years as coach of Glenelg, the Tigers played in five grand finals for two premierships in 1985/86. He was the inaugural coach of the Adelaide Crows, taking them to the preliminary final in the club’s third year. As coach, he led the SA state of origin team through its most successful era.

His football career was balanced by a corporate career, in which he was the dealer principal of several successful automobile franchises.

For over 23 years he was a radio broadcaster, the last 18 years of which he co-hosted Australia’s most successful sport, talk radio programme on FIVE aa. It consistently rated number one in the Adelaide market, beating even the most popular syndicated national programmes. He still hosts a popular “Conversations” programme and regularly guests as a sports broadcaster.

Having been drafted under the National Service Act he also served two years in the Australian Army, which included a tour of duty as an infantry soldier in South Vietnam in 1970. Veteran’s affairs and veteran’s mental health are close to his heart.

In March 2019 he was appointed to the Mental Health Commission’s Community Advisory Committee and advocates for greater public awareness of mental health issues.

John Mannion

Mental Health Commissioner John Mannion is the inaugural Executive Director of Breakthrough – Australia’s only foundation dedicated solely to mental health research. John’s career in mental health has spanned more than 30 years including as a practitioner as well as leading mental health services across the state.

John led the establishment of Breakthrough in 2018 which this year alone funded more than 20 leading research projects across all the state’s universities. These included projects in the areas of youth mental health, depression, indigenous mental health and eating disorders.

Dr Flip Oberholzer

Clinical Psychologist

He has also been appointed the state’s newest Mental Health Commissioner. The role will be in addition to his commitment as Executive Director for Breakthrough where he looks forward to creating a life free of mental illness by focusing upon research to inform clinical improvements, enhanced outcomes and community connectivity. Worked as a senior clinical psychologist for the Chamber of Mines 1983 to 1992. Senior Lecturer and head of Department of Psychology (University of the North) 1989 to 1992. Part Time Lecturer Industrial Psychology (University of Venda) 1998 to 1992. Skills development facilitator Massgas refinery 1992 to 1995. Relationships Manager Saldaha Steel (Greenfileds Project) 1995 to 2004. Senior Lecturer for MBA students (University of the Witwatersrand) 2004 to 2010. Own Business (FundoSA) 2001 to 2010: Recruitment and Selection, Disciplinary hearing Chair, Training Managers (Assess managers and supervisors wrt managerial skills), Team Building, Stress Management, Therapy : Depression and Anxiety, Pain Management, Relationship Therapy, PTSD, EAP. Own Business 2010 to now: Sport Psychologist (South African Cricket Team) 2005 - Team won World Cup.
