Christmas School Holiday 5-Day Immersion Program at UQ.

Kids College Queensland in partnership with the University of Queensland is offering a 5-Day Immersion Program at the University of Queensland, St Lucia campus from 12th - 16th December 2016.

This is a week-long program that will have two streams - a S.T.E.M stream and an Art, Literature, Drama stream. This program is for grades 5, 6 and 7 and will accept a maximum of 25 students into each stream.

The S.T.E.M stream will include workshops in Robotics, Coding, Forensic Science, Criminology, Engineering and a Maker-Space.
The Arts, Literature and Drama stream will include workshops in Painting, Creative Writing, Illustration and Cartooning, Creative Challenges including Scriptwriting, Performance techniques and Drama.
Each day students will be introduced to a new topic by a facilitator who is an expert in their field and immersed in an exciting workshop related to their chosen stream.

Places will be allocated on a first in, first served basis. Due to the popularity of our school holiday programs, it is anticipated that all places will be taken very soon after registrations open.

In addition to daily workshops, students will have the opportunity to engage in activities provided by various faculties and University of Queensland institutes including Criminology, Engineering, Sport, Robotics, Art and Archaeology.

Each student participating in the 5-day program will recieve a goodie-bag including a t-shirt, wristband, pen, lanyard and nametag.

On the final day, Friday, there will be an award presentation to recognize outstanding student achievement, a free family BBQ and an African Drumming workshop for parents and students from 3pm - 4:30pm.

Facts and Questions

Is there an age / grade requirement to participate in the program?

Yes. Students must be in grades 5, 6 & 7 in 2016.

Does my child need to attend each day?

Yes. Students must attend all 5 days of the immersion program.

What time does the day start and finish?

Students should arrive no later than 8:45am each day for a 9am start. Each day concludes at 3pm. Friday afternoon will conclude approximately 4:30pm after the African Drumming workshop and BBQ.

Can my child swap between steams?

No. Students must stay in their elected stream for the 5 days.

What do I do if my child is unable to attend due to illness?

Please notify the event organiser as soon as possble. Refunds, part refunds or credits will NOT be possible in this instance.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

What to bring?

Meals – Meals are NOT provided. Students will need to bring their own drinks, morning tea and lunch for each day. Please Do NOT bring foods containing nut or nut products.

Clothing – Students are advised to wear casual, comfortable clothing , enclosed footwear & bring a hat.
Equipment – Students are advised to bring a pencil case with scissors, glue etc.

For art workshops please bring an old shirt or art smock.

Students attending the STEM stream will be required to bring their own laptop and charger. Students will also need to download software (to be advised) that will be used during the course of the week.


**Please note parents are not required to stay. However, if necessary, you may touch base with your child during break times. Only under extenuating circumstances and prior approval may parents be permitted to be in the classroom once a course begins.

The children involved in the week will be supervised at all times by the workshop leaders both in workshop times and break times. During break times children are supervised in designated areas. Parents are asked not to take children away from the supervised area before notifying the event organisers.
