Event description

Description

Learn the research and science behind the power of music on the brain. Study the effect of music on neural pathways and hear case studies of real-life changing experiences of music for people living with dementia.

Music continues to be the subject of much enquiry in the neurosciences. It has a way of completely infiltrating your brain affecting areas that were considered to be inaccessible or unresponsive. The right kind of music, the sort that is individually enjoyable, can reduce anxiety, improve mood and reduce depression, reduce agitation, and pain. It can increase awareness and connection to people and their surroundings.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Consider a range of musical options from digital music, singing, and percussion
  • Hear case studies of the transformative power of music on the brain including emotion, movement and heightened cognition.
  • Have a go with simple techniques of music making
  • Learn about Music & Memory and how it is applied in a range of health care settings.

Eligible students:
Students, artists, healthcare professionals, general public
