Event description

Description

The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health (CEH) has been contracted by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to support the rollout of the NDIS in Victoria. More specifically, we are supporting language professionals to understand the NDIS to help them in their interpreting work.

This workshop is open to interpreters of languages spoken by the communities in Springvale: Burmese, Tamil, Sinhalese, Rohingya, Khmer, Thai, Tibetan, and others.

While the training has been designed around the interpreters interaction, translators are welcome to attend.

Interpreters who completed this training in 2018 are welcome to register as the training and glossaries have been updated to reflect the current stage of the NDIS in Victoria.

What you will learn:

This free, two-hour workshop will take participants through NDIS language and concepts and give them the opportunity to translate these into their own language in a way that they feel is most accurate. We will also discuss attitudinal values and cultural understandings of disability. This workshops creates opportunities for active participation and discussion.

Participants will leave with a glossary of NDIS and disability terminology, a ‘Fact Sheet for interpreters’ and a solid understanding of the requirements of developing and implementing an NDIS plan.

Please bring your ticket with you in hard copy or on your phone for scanning on arrival.

CPD points:

  • On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to apply for 10 Professional Development points from NAATI under Category 1.5.

  • After completion of the workshop, participants will receive an email confirming their attendance, which they will be able to use to claim PD points.

  • Please note that participants who arrive 20 minutes late or more will not be able to claim PD points from NAATI.
