Event description
This introductory workshop is aimed at helping staff understand cerebral palsy and how best to support their students who have cerebral pals

About this Event

It begins by demystifying the cerebral palsy specific language used by medical and therapy staff and assists participants to understand how a student’s cerebral palsy is influencing their ability to access the school curriculum and participate in school life.

Key movement issues that are present in all children with cerebral palsy will be discussed, as will associated challenges such as Complex Communication Needs and sensory processing challenges.

A large part of the workshop focuses on the practical implications of educating students with cerebral palsy and seeing the child as an active learner. There is also a focus on optimising a student’s learning within the curriculum, and the best seating, equipment and classroom set up to enable active participation. Participants will also be given ideas as to how to best find opportunities for active learning within the school timetable and daily classroom routine.

This session is appropriate for all school staff, therapists and parents. The knowledge, skills and attitudes taught during the workshop underpin all other modules in the workshop series.

Free for all Victorian Government School Staff.
