Understanding Psychoactive Drugs (Core Skill)

This workshop is designed for those wanting to gain a basic understanding of what psychoactive drugs are and the various licit and illicit substances used in Australia today. The workshop also covers:
- classification and effects of psychoactive drugs (including street names for commonly used drugs)
- patterns of use and harms from substance use
- basic neurobiology
- intoxication and overdose
- tolerance and withdrawal
- pharmacotherapies currently available
Prerequisite: Online Induction Material – Module 2
A certificate will be issued once core skills requirements are met.
This workshops is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 6 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.
