We need your support

What are we doing?

Health Issues Centre (HIC) launched a campaign to gather information about the impact of Pelvic Mesh (or tape) Implants. It is estimated that 100,000 women in Australia have a mesh implant and between three and 30 percent of these women are experiencing adverse effects. But no one knows.

HIC created a temporary Facebook page as a way to understand the magnitude of the problem and to gain insight into the quality of information that has been provided to women about this procedure. Since April, HIC has reached over 800 women who have anonymously shared their experiences with pelvic mesh, the information received and resulting complications. Of these:

  • 63% of women said that the procedure did not resolve their original issue

  • 53% of women felt that were not fully informed before the procedure

What’s worse is that when women approached a health professional about their concerns after surgery, a staggering 41% were told that nothing could be done and only 8% saw improvement.

The responses that HIC has received are harrowing, but we know we’ve barely scratched the surface.

Why do we need your support?

As a not-for-profit, HIC has independently funded all research to date but need support to continue the campaign. HIC is seeking donations to reach a target of $5500 to continue this important research in May ahead of making a senate inquiry submission.

Help us put the spotlight on an issue that is largely under reported and give the women affected the voice that they deserve to have heard.

Please Note: We have DGR status, which means donations over $2 are tax deductible.
