Understanding Gender Diversity with Dr Elizabeth Riley

Day 1 : Gender Diversity & Expression : Monday 27 November, 2017

9:30am to 5:30pm

Purpose of Day 1: To enhance participant’s knowledge, recognition, sensitivity and awareness of the needs of people with diversity in gender identity and/or expression

Day 2 : Interventions & Skills for Working with Clients Presenting with Gender Diversity : Tuesday 28 November, 2017

9:30am to 5:30pm

Purpose of Day 2: To enable participants to support individuals presenting with gender diversity & gender dysphoria.

Topics Covered: • Assessment • Gender Feeling Amplitude • Working with families/teens/adults • Guidelines • Transition • Referrals & Medical Interventions • Case studies

BIO

Dr Elizabeth Anne Riley is a Sydney-based counsellor and clinical supervisor specialising in gender identity. Dr Riley has a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, a Graduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling and a PhD titled ‘The needs of gender variant children and their parents’. Having worked with the trans community for nearly 20 years, Dr Riley now provides gender specific support and counselling for children, youth & their parents and delivers professional development in gender diversity for schools, clinicians and other service providers.

Dr Riley has 10 publications with another two in press and a couple of book chapters to be published this year. Dr Riley is also a media spokesperson on behalf of the transgender community. Appearances include SBS World news, 60 minutes, Insight, The Project, A Current Affair, Radio National, JJJ and Heads Up. Dr Riley was a founding member of the Australian and New Zealand Professional Associations for Transgender Health (ANZPATH), is a Clinical Registrant of Psychotherapy and counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), and a professional clinical member of the World Professional Associations for Transgender Health (WPATH). Dr Riley was the Ethics Chair for PACFA from 2013-2016.
