About this Event

Overview

Since the introduction of family violence leave, many workplaces have introduced family violence policies and support officers into the business.

This training is designed to give managers, HR teams and other organisational leaders the knowledge and confidence to support employees experiencing family violence.

Why this course?

It is important that workplaces engage with victims and perpetrators of family violence in a way that is respectful and safe.

  • This training has been informed by the latest evidence on family violence internationally.
  • It has been designed with victim survivors input and involvement.
  • Experiential design with opportunities to share organisational best practice as well as encourage engagement and practical application.

Outcomes

Participants will leave with:

  • An introduction to family violence and its impacts
  • Awareness of some of the sensitivities and issues
  • How to identify if family violence is occurring
  • Opportunities to practice difficult conversations
  • An understanding of external support systems and how to support someone to engage with these services
  • Practical ideas to make your workplace more supportive to victims and responsive to impacts of family violence

Behind the workshop

Dr Katie Lamb - Counterpoint Advisory

Dr Katie Lamb is the Director of Counterpoint Advisory, providing consultancy services to government, non-government services and the private sector on issues impacting vulnerable families and children.

Katie has a background in criminology and public policy and a PhD in social work. She applies her broad experience and knowledge to her design and delivery of family violence training.

She is a research fellow at the University of Melbourne and  regularly presents at conferences within Australia and overseas.

Katie has 15 years experience as a statewide planner, program manager and senior policy advisor in the Victorian Public Service. She also worked in the Health, Human Services and Ageing Advisory team at KPMG. 

Katie also has expertise developing and delivering customised training in the identification of family violence, family violence risk assessment and for workplaces wanting to support employees experiencing family violence.

Serious Woo

The program is co-designed and facilitated with Serious Woo, experiential learning experts who help organisations develop communication and creative intelligence to foster healthy resilient workplaces. Workshop attendees will benefit from performance based elements to apply further context, insights and practical tips to assist retention of complex subject matter.
