Description

Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common physical disability in childhood with the incidence currently standing at 1 in 500 births. CP is primarily a disorder of posture and movement but there are often other challenges for the child such as epilepsy, communication, visual, hearing and behavioural issues.
In order to work with and assist children with CP it is important to have a basic understanding and knowledge of the condition. This workshop will provide information on the variable presentations of CP and the challenges these may present for the child with CP. Strategies to support your work with a child with CP will also be explored.

This workshop will enhance your knowledge and undertsanding of Cerebral Palsy.
It will provide you with interventions and strategies to support individuals with Cerebral Palsy to enhance their participation in their daily activities at home, school and within the community.

By attending the full day session (recommended for allied health professionals only) you will also learn about:

  • Positioning for function, mobility and play. This will explore early handling and positioning of the young child with CP to support their postural needs and support development of functional skills. This will also include hands on experience with use of positional and mobility equipment for older children with CP and an introduction to 24-hour postural management.

  • Movement Disorder management. This will provide an overview of current management specifically of spasticity and dystonia of the lower and upper limbs, including discussion on assessment tools used and management.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is accessible by public transport (bus).

There is on-site parking at Novita's Regency Park Office.

Do I need to pack my own food etc. for a full day session?

Novita will supply tea and coffee facilities plus a light morning tea. Lunch is not supplied. Novita's Star Cafe will be open with a range of lunch options for you to choose from should you wish to purchase lunch.
