Please note: this event is run by the Small Business Development Corporation for small business owners in Western Australia only.
If you are new to business, or not trained in basic bookkeeping skills, record keeping can be overwhelming.
Many business owners fail to meet best-practice guidelines and so are running their business blindly. With the ATO's strict guidelines around record keeping, it's important to understand how to be compliant.
With proper bookkeeping systems you will be able to generate essential business reports to help you make better financial decisions and provide greater clarity as to how your business is tracking.
This topic covers:
- ATO record keeping requirements;
- How to record business transactions;
- An overview of the profit and loss and balance sheet reports;
- A review of the different types of accounting software available;
- Options for document storage including electronic options and apps;
- Tips to set up a productive office/admin area.
This session is suitable for anyone new to business or anyone already in business but wanting to gain a better understanding on best practice record keeping.
The facilitator for this topic, Bookwiz, is a multi-award winning business advisory firm that has been providing bookkeeping, BAS and payroll services for 20 years. Their presenter of this topic has extensive experience in MYOB and XERO training, franchising, change management, digital transformation consulting and financial literacy training for small business owners, and more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.
This session is presented by the SBDC, the only agency in the Western Australian Government dedicated to helping small business. In fact, we've been providing practical support to small business owners for more than 30 years.

Additional information for online workshop sessions
Please check your computer's suitability for online workshops, including its sound quality, browser, internet bandwidth and speed and video plugins (if required) before the start of the online workshop session. Camera and microphone capabilities are recommended to interact with online workshops.
Our online workshops are run as live, interactive sessions, similar to the format of our face-to-face sessions. For this reason, there is a limited number of tickets per session so our presenters can adequately interact with, and respond to, attendees. Recordings of these live sessions are not available if you do not attend the live event time.
