Event description

Description

There has been an increased awareness and interest in the experience of girls with Autism in recent years, with a focus on how they differ from boys and the unique challenges they face in society. While the criteria for diagnosis of boys and girls remains the same, the more subtle demonstration of girls’ autistic features means that their difficulties can go unrecognised and unsupported in the preschool and school environment.

This presentation will discuss some of the differences between boys and girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder and why girls are often more difficult to diagnose, explore some of the most common difficulties girls with Autism face in the classroom and playground, and discuss strategies for supporting girls with Autism to be successful in developing friendships, managing their emotions and reaching their potential.

Presented by Child Psychologist Raelene Dundon.
