Event description

Description

Research suggests that problematic substance use often goes unreported or is minimised by clients and this can have an adverse impact on treatment. Do you routinely screen for substance use when working with your clients? How do you determine if their use is problematic? What specialist services are available in the community and how do you refer clients?

Turning Point Eastern Health is offering a one day seminar for health professionals including those in private practice on understanding and responding to alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues in their clinical work. This workshop will provide an introduction to:

  • Effects and harms of alcohol and other commonly abused drugs

  • Prevalence and patterns of AOD use

  • AOD frameworks and models

  • AOD screening and assessment tools

  • Harm reduction strategies

  • AOD treatment options

  • Referral pathways to alcohol and other drug services
