Join in the three weeks of celebration with our Newcastle U3A Showcase program of Newcastle Stories, 3D printing, Philosophy, Climate Change, Latin , Music and much more.

Course: The Harrison Clock

A carpenter by trade, John Harrison taught himself clock making and in the 1720’s designed a remarkable series of clocks which achieved an amazing accuracy. He is remembered as solving the problem of Longitude, which has enabled sailors to determine their exact position at sea

Presenter: Chris Cull

Chris moved to Newcastle in 2014 and has recently retired from his role as company director and management consultant. He is currently on the board of Mentor Support Network, a charity providing financial support to students across the Hunter Region and is Chair of the Centennial Park Volunteer Committee in Cooks Hill where he lives. Chris has been a member, supporter and contributor to U3A co-ordinating the now long-running Philosophical Discussion Group and presenting talks each year on several other subjects.
