The Calm Classroom: A Collaborative Approach to Supporting Students with Emotional and Behavioural Challenges

with Dr Johann Eloff and Dr Lize Andrews

Managing challenging behaviours in the classroom and implementing the right intervention is often considered to be the most difficult aspect of teaching. In this presentation, clinical psychologist Dr Johann Eloff and Dr Lize Andrews explore the keys to addressing common emotional and behavioural issues teachers encounter in their classrooms. In this seminar you will learn how to support vulnerable students by collaborating with them to identify underlying concerns and achieve mutually satisfactory solutions to their problems. Developing skills in collaborative and proactive problem solving will enable you to encourage positive behaviour in your classroom and allow you to foster better relationships with your students, creating an optimal learning environment for all

Participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the emotional and behavioural problems children and adolescents present with in the classroom.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of what drives emotional difficulties and challenging behaviour in children and adolescents.
  • Be provided with practical strategies for supporting at-risk students.
  • Explore referral pathways for students that may require more intensive support.
