About this Twilight Seminar
Numeracy - the important role of proportional reasoning
Numeracy is a key educational priority and core across all learning areas in the school curriculum. Proportional reasoning is an elusive concept but permeates the entire school curriculum. The Australian Curriculum: Mathematics includes applying and interpreting proportional reasoning as integral to one of the elements of numeracy.
In this presentation, numeracy as a component of the Australian Curriculum is overviewed, and compared and contrasted with national and international definitions of numeracy. Research into the development of proportional reasoning as a key to numeracy is presented. Activities for incorporating students’ natural and intuitive proportional reasoning capabilities into rich learning experiences for numeracy are shared.
About the Twilight Seminar Series
In keeping with the Education Partnerships Professional Learning (EPPL) Office's desire to build partnerships with sites which take our education students for their Supervised Professional Experience, an invitation is extended to our partner schools to attend our Twilight Professional Development Seminars.
The series will be based on topics delivered by University of the Sunshine Coast academic staff and high-quality education professionals to enhance and contribute to the professional development of school staff.
Come along with your peers and other partner schools and attend engaging, though-provoking and practical seminars that support your professional development. Certificates of Attendance are issued at the end of each seminar to make it easy for you to gain credit towards your annual QCT professional development requirements.
Criteria for Registration
