Description

About the group

Transvaginal mesh is a specific surgical mesh that has been used to manage pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence problems for women. It has now been recognised that some women have been adversely impacted following transvaginal mesh surgery and for many this has had life altering consequences.

In response, Women’s Health Victoria has been selected by the Victorian Government to deliver a series of peer support groups for affected women, in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Purpose of the group

This group will be facilitated by a specialist counsellor.

The purpose of the group is to:

  • Connect locally affected women to each other in a safe, confidential and supportive environment.

  • Provide emotional support to women and acknowledge their experiences with empathy and without judgement.

  • Hear from women about their issues and learn what they want in terms of ongoing supports and services.

  • Provide practical support and pathways to information and referral.
