Tuesday Night Tutor Session - 2018

Term 2 8 May ― 3 July $525

Tuesday nights x 9 weeks, 9 x 3 hour sessions

Free flow, adjusted to your level, good people, good tutor!


This is a great opportunity for students of all levels to undertake their own projects under the expert tuition. This class will be based on the hand skills with some machine work as well. Classes are limited to 6 students. There are 8 to 10 classes per term, with 4 terms per year.

If you are unsure of an appropriate project, I can advise you on suitable projects appropriate to your level of skill. These classes are ongoing and offer a great opportunity to join a group of like minded enthusiasts. You can have an additional option to access workshop space with appropriate induction to the machines.

Examples of projects undertaken:

BYO project

Bring your own project. The program typically start with at least a few nights tutoring in woodwork hand skills.

Past student’s project examples:

Kids bed with mortise and tenon joint, wooden puzzles, dovetail box, kid's chair, Shoji light, Japanese plane making, Sliding dovetail stool

Popular program example

Japanese Tool Making takes 10 nights to make a 48mm smooth plane, spoke shave plane or marking gauge

Sliding dovetail stool making takes about 10 nights to make your own R-plane and use it to make sliding dovetail joints

Term 1 (6 Feb – 10 Apr) finished $580, 10 x 3 hour sessions, 10 weeks

Term 3 (17 July – 25 Sept, TBC) $415 , 7 x 3 hour session, 7 weeks

Note: There will be a mid term break (4 weeks) due to Hiroshi's project in Japan.

Break: 31 July - 27 Aug (4 weeks)

Term 4 (23 Oct – 11 Dec) $470 , 8x 3 hour sessions, 8 weeks

*Material fees are not included.

*When the class is full, Application will not be open.

*GST may apply when KOITOYA become GST registered in the near future.


Long Term Students Discount - by attending more than 3 terms.

Yearly Pass available.

Flexible plan possible. ~What if you missed the class or going on holiday?~

You can take an alternative night on Thursday to catch up your missing night. (Early bird fee is not refundable.)

You can also pay $60 per each night instead of paying discounted early bird fee. (Email Hiroshi to book your space.)

You can attend for 2 hours, 19:00 ~ 21:00, with reduced price (about 2/3 of Term fee. Book through email)

Cancellation Policy

0-6 days before 8 May 2018: 20% cancellation fee if place is not filled.

> 7 days notice given: full refund.

Optional opportunity: Saturday Machine Safety Workshop (9:30-15:30), $150 ($130 for current students)

Limited to current students only, to get extra lectures about machine safety and usage.

This is optional. The fee will be charged at the door on the day.
