Description

AN EVENT FOR CURRENT AND PAST SERVING FIRST RESPONDERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND THOSE WHO SUPPORT FIRST RESPONDER MENTAL HEALTH.

Most of us know that physical activity improves mental health, but it's not always easy to get motivated, so we've organised this event as a FUN way to connect and to get moving!

Join us for a unique event with 40 obstacles including mud, water, fun and laughs! No matter how many join in, the aim of the challenge is that we all help each other, so this is suitable for ANY fitness level!

RAW Challenge instructors will be there to encourage and instruct.

For those who enoy a bit of competition, there will be an optional TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP short course at the end of the main course. To take part in this you will need a TEAM OF 4.

There will be a BBQ with sausage sandwiches and drinks for sale.

**If you are a first responder or first responder family member who is currently experiencing financial difficulties but who thinks this experience may be of benefit, please contact us to discuss. info@behindtheseenaustralia.com

**Behind The Seen is auspiced by San Remo Neighbourhood Centre Inc, your ticket invoice will reflect this

OVERVIEW FROM RAW CHALLENGE INSTRUCTORS

Raw Challenge is a day where participants have fun, build team spirit and self- confidence. We run these events based on team building.

In order to ensure safety, we take a team or teams around the course in roughly equal numbers with an instructor/s. The instructor in charge will make a call on the day as to wave sizes. Ideally one team is better than splitting teams but this is dependent upon the numbers.

The team/s will go around as fast as their slowest member. That is to say, the rest of the team needs to encourage and help all team members, acting as one unit. Positive reinforcement is the key. It is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical challenge.

We find that people can talk themselves out of things very easily if it ‘looks too hard.’ If they are unsure about completing an obstacle, we like to encourage participants to have a go, instructing them on how they should do the obstacle safely and encourage them all the way.

Many times, participants have a go and surprise themselves that they can accomplish something they thought they could never do and then they really do feel good about themselves. If they are adamant they don't wish to continue on that obstacle, they can walk around it. They are never forced to do any obstacle.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring lace-up shoes to run the course. Leave any old joggers at home. You need your shoes to last the distance. No slip-on shoes please as they easily slip off and are lost in the mud puddles. Light clothing as opposed to heavy fleecy lined long pants and heavy cotton shirts. They become very heavy with mud and water.

Bring a change of clothes, a towel and a plastic bag in which to take your wet clothes home.

There will be a BBQ with sausage sandwiches and drinks for sale but consider bringing your own snacks / fruit, food and drink as you expend a lot of energy which generally makes most people quite hungry.

A can-do and positive outlook on doing the course. Everyone can have a go at some of the obstacles, if not all of them, and they usually feel really good about themselves for having achieved something they didn’t think they could do. So please, just have a go.

SAFETY

Safety is a priority for our participants and staff at Raw Challenge. Should there be any extreme weather on the day eg. lightning, the event will be postponed until the lightning stops (if it is within a reasonable time) or cancelled and a part/full refund will be provided, dependent upon how far participants have completed the course.

There will be a safety briefing prior to the commencement of the course, outlining the do’s and don’ts around the course obstacles. The instructors will stop a participant if they deem they are behaving in an unsafe manner.

Alcohol: ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL IS TO BE CONSUMED PRIOR TO THE EVENT OR DURING THE EVENT FOR SAFETY AND INSURANCE PURPOSES. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED ON COURSE IF THEY HAVE CONSUMED ALCOHOL.

EVERY participant will need to sign a waiver form prior to commencing the course.
