About this Event
Concert 1 (14 March) reflects upon the extraordinary year which was 2020 - a year where many endured lockdown and isolation - by exploring music written for one, two, and three people. Beautiful and haunting works by Rutland Boughton, Gyorgy Ligeti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Reissiger, and Eugene Ysaye.
Concert 2 (22 August) explores two Romantic composers at the beginning of their piano trio composition career, with the first trios of Ludwig van Beethoven - a work which his teacher thought was controversial - and Carl Reissiger - the first of his 28 piano trios.
Concert 3 (17 October) turns up the passion with the evocative and emotive early works of two Russians - Sergei Rachmaninoff and Dmitri Shostakovich - juxtaposed to the ebullient passion of Reissiger's trio. The concert also includes a new work by Kenji Fujimura, the commission generously supported by the City of Melbourne.
