FOR GPs & PSYCHIATRISTS

This education session has been developed for GPs and Psychiatrists treating opioid dependence in their clinics. The presenters are experts in their respective fields and will be sharing case studies and practical guidance for treatment of opioid dependence.

The education session will be delivered in an interactive format, providing an opportunity for attendees to contribute to questions and discussion related to challenges in this treatment area. Dr McDonough will present the logistical requirements of MATOD in South Australia.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Identify risk for opioid problems (including dependence/addiction) and recognise
    opportunities for prevention of such opioid-related problems;

  • Manage CNCP with comorbid opioid dependence;

  • Understand the new sociopsychobiomedical paradigm of pain;

  • Recognise the key roles of allied health practitioners in the management of CNCP;

  • Understand the limited role of long-term opioid therapy in the management of CNCP.
