Description

The Alice Springs Family Law Pathways Network and Sexual Assault Referral Centre are pleased to host a two day workshop with Pauline Lodge and Glenda Kickett from the Australian Childhood Foundation.

This workshop is about

As professionals in the legal and community service sector continue to enhance their understanding of neurobiology, trauma and the range of modalities that stem from this knowledge, the question often posed is, “How do I put this knowledge into practice with children and families?”

This two day workshop will provide a link between the neurobiology of complex trauma, its impacts on the brain, body and relationships and effective strategies to engage children and adults who have experienced complex trauma. With an acknowledgement and exploration of intergenerational and transgenerational trauma, we will focus on creative ways to explore, make meaning and understand the impacts of trauma and what this means for our practice with children and families.

Learning outcomes include:

- Exploration of the neurobiology of trauma, including consideration of the theoretical perspectives of trans-generational trauma and epigenetics, its impact on family functioning and the developing child; with a focus on what this means for family interventions.

- Building an understanding of the broad issues vulnerable children face and the difficulties in engaging and re-engaging marginalized parents who have also experienced complex trauma and its long-term implications.

- Exploration of the concept of ‘neuroception’ of safety and what it means for our practice.

- Experiencing a practical exploration of skills to increase participants understanding of strategies and approaches that help facilitate trauma recovery for children and families.

Facilitators:
