TRAUMA INFORMED PASTORAL CARE | with Phil Mason

Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm- 9 pm AEDT

We are living in an era where ‘Trauma Informed Care’ has become mainstream in the frontline helping community. A trauma-informed carer validates trauma, whether ‘complex’ or ‘simple,’ and seeks to assist survivors to overcome the debilitating and isolating effects of every kind of human trauma. God desires the entire pastoral care community to become the head, not the tail, in biblically trauma-informed pastoral care.

Sadly, the church has traditionally offered a one-dimensional solution to a two-dimensional problem. We have properly identified the sin issue by confronting those who commit abusive and traumatizing acts. However, we have largely overlooked addressing the impact of living in a sinful world filled with out-of-control perpetrators. The pastoral care of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, not only recognizes but also promotes deep healing from trauma through His ministry of supernatural peace, expressed in the biblical concept of ‘shalom.’ This course provides solid guidance on developing trauma-informed pastoral care as an expression of the kingdom ministry of Jesus.
