Event Details

The Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association (VAADA) has been funded by the Australian Department of Health to facilitate workforce development opportunities across Victoria, including the delivery of a series of training workshops.

Trauma Informed Care has been recognised as a priority for workforce development, and the training will be delivered by VICSERV.

*******************************************************************************************************************

Traumatic experiences are common, and the effects can be profound. Trauma Informed Care helps to build a client’s sense of safety, control and empowerment through strengths-based interventions.

This workshop will help you become trauma informed and feel confident to respond to and support people who have experienced trauma.

By the end of the two-day workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the nature of interpersonal trauma, and the principles of trauma informed care
  • Understand the relationship between recovery-oriented practice and trauma informed care
  • Understand the stress responses to trauma in the body and the brain
  • Understand responses to trauma and the impact on the individual, family and community
  • Understand the importance of safety including the body, relationships and environment
  • Develop trauma-informed relationships that foster support and healing
  • Respond to distress, disclosures, triggers and flashbacks
  • Exercise self-care and understand the impact of vicarious trauma

Participants will also be provided with:

  • Intimate learning environment, limited to 20 participants with two facilitators
  • Comprehensive manual
  • Certificate of completion
