Event Details

Victoria’s rail and transport industry is invited to learn more about the industry’s diversity and how is it building for an inclusive future. Delivered as part of Victoria's Training for The Future program, Transforming Transport is an industry-wide series of sessions aimed at building the industry's inclusion capability. The series reinforces the need to create an inclusive Victoria that enables people to fulfil their potential as equals regardless of their gender, sexuality, ability or culture.

Come and be part of sessions that include:

* Q&A with with inspiring and influential leaders from industry, community and peak bodies

* information on programs you can join to champion inclusion and diversity in your workforce.

These sessions includes a breakfast/ networking opportunity at 8.30am.

International Women's Day, 6 March: this day sheds light on gender inequality, which remains an issue at all levels of the workforce. For example, women have just 19% representation in transport industry.

Cultural Diversity Week, 20 March: Victoria’s largest multicultural celebration centred around 21 March - the UN Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), 15 May: a day to stand with LGBTIQ people.  It marks the day in 1990 when homosexuality was removed as a diagnosis in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

Reconciliation Week, 3 June: brings Australians together to explore what we can contribute to our future, learn about our shared histories and become a stronger nation. It remembers Mabo Day and the 1997 referendum - come along to discover their significance, and more.

NAIDOC Week, 7 JulyThis is a key time to celebrate and recognise this history and the contemporary achievements that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people make to the world, and our projects.

International Day of People with Disability, 3 Dec: a UN sanctioned day that aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

Industry Capability and Inclusion - Training For The Future Program

An initiative of the Victorian Government’s Major Transport Infrastructure Authority and Department of Transport, Training for the Future is an industry skills program designed to prepare Australians to deliver an unprecedented amount of work on the Melbourne rail network over the next ten years and beyond.

Delivered by the Level Crossing Removal Project in partnership with the Rail Academy Newport, Rail Projects Victoria, Metro Trains Melbourne, Yarra Trams, Vline, Victrack, Public Transport Victoria and Victoria’s transport construction partners, the program will result in a new generation of rail talent for Victoria. It will provide opportunities to re-skill people with relevant experience from industries in decline, as well as training people from disadvantaged communities.

The key elements of Training for the Future include:

  • industry capability
  • skills development
  • diversity and social inclusion opportunities.
