Transforming primary care
Tue. 25 October 2016, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm AEDT
This event brings together key individuals from health care organisations across Melbourne’s east to discuss how we can work together to improve health care for our region. Dr Stephen Duckett will present the findings of two widely discussed 2016 Grattan reports, Perils of place and Chronic failure in primary care. Professor Jane Gunn, Professor of Primary Care Research at the University of Melbourne and Board Member of the Eastern Melbourne PHN will respond to Stephen’s paper, before the audience is invited to express its views through a Q and A session and a workshop.
Dr Stephen Duckett is the Health Program Director at Grattan Institute, and a former Secretary of what is now the Commonwealth Department of Health. An economist, he is a Fellow of Australia’s Academy of the Social Sciences, and has also held health leadership positions in Victoria and Canada.
Your chance to shape change
Across the world, health professionals acknowledge that responding effectively to the health conditions that most affect developed nations in the 21st century requires a new approach to primary care. This event provides an exciting opportunity to review and discuss with key stakeholders two recent reports on the challenges faced by Primary Health Networks, and how a place-based approach might reduce health care inequality.
The event will include:
• Presentations from Dr Stephen Duckett and Professor Jane Gunn
• Q and A session
