Event description

Description

The Transderwent is an iconic 'blue riband' event on the swimming calendar that takes place during the Regatta weekend every year as part of the Royal Hobart Regatta. It involves competitors being transported across the Derwent River on one of a number of boats to Montagu Bay followed by an approximate 1.5km swim across the river to finish at a pontoon in front of the Regattta pavilion.

Competitors must report at 7am on the morning of the race for registration on the foreshore. This will be followed by a competitor briefing between 7:45am and 8am. Non-attendance by 7:45am may result in a non-start as boats will start to be loaded for transport at 8am. Competitors are able to have a non-motorised support vessel (but the vessel must not approach or impede any other competitors). There are, however, a large number of vessels supporting all swimmers (including 4-6 jet skis). Swimmers that take longer than 45 minutes may be removed frm the water as a safety concern.
