Event Details

Birth for Humankind is a registered not for profit organisation and a respected provider of support and education programs for pregnant women in Melbourne. With referrals from major hospitals and agencies, our services help improve maternal health experiences and outcomes for women with complex needs. We advocate for an equitable, respectful and mother-centred maternal health system.

We are pleased to offer this 2-day training course designed specifically for those who would like to be more equipped to support pregnant women with complex needs. It is particularly well suited to obstetricians, anaesthetists, GPs, midwives, nurses, interpreters, social workers, doulas and maternal child health workers. Birth for Humankind has developed and will facilitate this training in conjunction with leading community organisations and women with this lived experience.

Organiser

Birth for Humankind

We believe that every mother should have access to appropriate care and support during pregnancy, birth and early parenting. We build the confidence, resilience and preparedness of mothers experiencing disadvantage, and advocate for a more equitable, respectful and mother-centred maternal health system.

 Our programs include:

Doula Support - matching women referred by hospitals, social workers and community services with volunteer doulas (non-clinical birth support professionals) to provide continuity of care, personal and emotional support and improved access to services.

Education Programs – Targeted, appropriate and social support programs for mothers who face barriers to accessing mainstream services.

Research and advocacy – Through research, programmatic evidence and modelling best-practice continuity of care we work to influence the maternal health system to better support women experiencing disadvantage.
