Event description
Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) will host the first hackathon aimed at addressing challenges in the trades in 2020.

About this Event

Do you have an idea to solve the problem of waste in trades?

Form a team or sign up as an individual to collaborate on a project. Pitch your idea to a panel and be in the running for prizes. There are no parameters for the project, ie. it can be a community idea or a tech idea or something completely different.

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an event where people come together to solve a problem. During ‘the Trade Hack’ our partner Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN) will support the participants to develop the skills to question, collaborate and innovate, by delivering the hackathon workshops.

Who can do this hackathon?

This event is open to anyone who is interested in looking at the waste generated from industry and trades in the ACT. You do not have to have a firm idea, but you might be interested in how you can become involved in a new way of solving problems, new business skills and perhaps through this, create an idea that you can take forward as a business.

CIT apprentices and students, graduates, industry and businesses are all welcome to be part of the event.

People can register as individuals or as a team. Teams can be two people, or four people or five people or six people.

No experience is required to do the hack and all the skills you need will be delivered through workshops with CBRIN;

> Ideas and customers: introduction to principles of lean innovation and customer validation

> Prototypes and Business models

> Pitching and presenting your solutions This is a free event.

To register for the event follow the Eventbrite registration process. During the program you are expected to engage with the process by:

> Participating in all activities

> Turning off mobile phones and not getting distracted by other commitments on the day

> Engage actively in all exercises, be proactive, challenge each other, engage with the methods introduced

> Commit to solving a problem and accountability tasks between workshops

> Be willing to explore new ideas that can contribute to accelerating CIT’s progress on its evolving together strategy

Prizes and ongoing opportunities from this hackathon include prize money to help you take your business idea into the ‘proof of concept’ stage. You will also get additional support through CBRIN.

2, 3, 16 March | 4.30pm to 7.30pm

17 March | 4.30pm to 9.30pm

Once you have registered for this event, we will email you a calendar request for all four sessions.

This will be delivered by the Canberra Institute of Technology and Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN).

CBRIN houses and collaborates with a range of programs including a startup accelerator, incubator and collaborative innovation labs, has had more than 45,000 visitors and has helped over 1,000 budding entrepreneurs and SMEs through its lean innovation focused education.
